About - SIMONA URSULE

I’m Simona Ursule – a multi-passionate, energetic and curious writer and linguist. I am here to help you achieve your content goals be it a blog post, an article, a website copy, sales emails and more.

ON WRITING

My writing style is malleable. I think it has to be – your clients should hear your voice, not mine. So that’s what I aim to capture. You.

As time is such a precious commodity, I aim to spend mine creating something beautiful, something real, something worthwhile. I’m not a fan of lifeless buzzwords that mean nothing. Agile. Pivot. Solution. Yaaawn.

ON EXPERTISE

Copywriting is part skill, part curiosity and part belief in the brand I am writing about. The latter is just as important as having technical skills.

Popular wisdom tells us to specialise, and it’s hard not to – I call myself multi-passionate and yet I can quite comfortably narrow down my areas of expertise to TRAVEL, EDUCATION, and SELF DEVELOPMENT. But I am highly curious and I love researching and learning new things. In anyone else, this trait might be a curse but a good writer should be able to write about anything,

THE BACKSTORY

Once upon a time (in 2017), in a land far far away (Lithuania), I co-founded a business. Like many new ventures, I was so busy with the many different business needs that copywriting, even though I wasn’t new to it, became an afterthought. As a result, we struggled to get visitors, drive sales, increase traffic to our website, get engagement on social media. You think of a copywriting (or lack thereof)-related issue, we had it.

When I finally put my finger on the root of the problem, I had to acknowledge the fact that we desperately needed to hire a copywriter. To anyone else that may have been the breakthrough moment that solved their problems. For me, it created more of them.

You see, having to  delegate writing tasks is simply unthinkable for me. Some sort of short circuit occurs in my brain and it starts going something like this:

“So…I’m basically choosing between work and fun…Am I really going to pay someone else to do the fun part for me?”

It might sound a little (ehem) irrational and I wouldn’t blame you for thinking so but I promise, there is a perfectly good explanation for that. For starters, I have been writing since I was a kid. And I was good at it. (Or so people said.) That was probably what led me to study English lit at university. As it happened, my course included an exceeding number of writing modules (luckily for me – I was much better at writing than interpreting literature). I then studied journalism followed by copywriting. Each of these distinct types of writing trained my writing muscles and appealed to me for different reasons. To this day, I write stories, interview articles, travelogues or practice copy in my spare time.

If you’re now thinking that loving writing and loving sales and marketing is not the same, you’re right. It isn’t. Except for me it kind of is. There are techniques and formulas and psychology to it but at the end of the day, it’s still about words. Creative words. And I LOVE words.

To circle back to the story, when I realised that I would have to hire someone else to do what I wanted to do, I  just couldn’t do it. Well, I could. But I didn’t want to. I wanted to write more, and run the business less. A bit of a cold shower moment, if you ask me. Cold showers are good for you though if only for the fact that now I wake up every day excited to get work.

If you think you too might want to delegate your writing to me, get in touch.
